The revised version of Double Concerto for Viola, Cello and Orchestra was given its première, with soloists Aaron Au, viola, Tanya Prochazka, cello and the University Symphony Orchestra conducted by the composer. January 25, 2010 at the Francis Winspear Centre for music.

Terpsichore
The National Arts Centre Orchestra of Ottawa and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra have collaborated to commission a major new work for chorus and orchestra by Malcolm Forsyth. The première will take place in Ottawa in 2011, to celebrate Forsyth’s 75th birthday, with a repeat performance in Edmonton later the same year. The text will be a compilation of poems by several Canadian poets, featuring iconic places and historical Canadian events.
The fortieth anniversary season (1969-2009) of the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Ottawa was marked by a concert on September 23 conducted by Pinchas Zukerman featuring an enthusiastically received curtain-raiser performance of Forsyth’s 1963 work, Jubilee Overture, written for the fiftieth anniversary of the Cape Town Municipal Orchestra, of which Forsyth was a member, in 1964.
At the 2009 International Horn Society conference in Macon, Illinois on June 5, newly commissioned versions of two works were premiered: Eclectic Suite for Horn and Piano (originally for cello and piano) and Andante from Sagittarius for two horns and piano (originally for brass quintet and orchestra; later rearranged for cello and piano and later yet for two harps and string orchestra). Soloist in Eclectic Suite was Jeff Nelsen (who commissioned these versions). Andante from Sagittarius was performed by Jeff Nelsen and the Swedish virtuoso Annamia Erickson.
Six verses by Canadian poet Carl Hare were presented in Nursery Rhymes, for junior children’s choir (8- to 11-year-old), by the Edmonton Junior Children’s Choir, conducted by Anne McIntyre.
The music of Malcolm Forsyth continues to be performed on five continents.
2008
A new piano solo was commissioned by CBC in commemoration of Glenn Gould's anniversary: Preludio e Fuga sul nome di Glenn Gould. It is constructed on the famous pianist's initials: G E G D
The Toronto Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Peter Oundjian, featured as part of its Festival celebrating the keyboard and Olivier Messiaen, Forsyth’s Concerto for Accordion & Orchestra, with the Russian virtuoso Alexander Sevastian as soloist, and the composer present as a special guest.
The new work for trio, Lyric Essay, for oboe, bassoon and piano was premiered at the International Double Reed Society convention in Provo, Utah. The Sundance Trio commissioned and performed the piece both there and later on a tour of US venues in 2009.
The premiere of the new violin and orchestra work, Trickster Coyote—Lightning Elk, was given by the young Mohawk violin virtuoso, Tara-Louise Montour, who commissioned the piece. The Edmonton Youth Orchestra was conducted by Michael Massey.
A new work for brass band, Rondino & Tiddly Pom, was premiered by the MillCreek Colliery Band, conducted by Forsyth. The piece features duo soloists: soprano cornet and tenorhorn.
2007
February – May. Symphony Nova Scotia, conducted by Bernhard Gueller, held a Forsyth Festival in Halifax, with performances of three orchestral works: Valley of a Thousand Hills, Concerto for Trumpet & Orchestra (Richard Simoneau, trumpet), and Electra Rising: Concerto for Violoncello & Chamber Orchestra (Amanda Forsyth, cello). The composer was the guest of the orchestra at all these performances.
2004
The premiere of the new Double Concerto for Viola, Cello & Orchestra was given by the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Soloists were Rivka Golani (viola), and Tanya Prochazka (cello). William Eddins conducted. 2005 Opera Nuova presented the Cantata, Evangeline, for soprano, trumpet & chamber orchestra as the culmination of its annual festival. Soloists were Heidi Klassen (soprano), Alvin Lowrey (trumpet), and the hour-long work was conducted by the composer
2003
The premiere of Concerto for Eight was given by the group Octagon 2003 including such stars as Andrew Dawes, Amanda Forsyth, Rivka Golani, James Campbell and Joel Quarrington, on a tour of Ontario. The tour was preceded by a command performance honouring the composer at Rideau Hall, official residence of Her Honour the Governor General of Canada, Adrienne Clarkson. The work is for clarinet, horn, bassoon and string quintet, thus complementing the Octet of Franz Schubert. This all culminated in a studio recording of the work for broadcast on national radio by the CBC. In December Malcolm Forsyth was honoured by induction into the Order of Canada, highest honour of the nation, cited for his brilliant career as composer and trombonist.
2002
Celebrating his retirement after a 34-year career as Professor and Composer in Residence at the University of Alberta, the University Symphony Orchestra presented a concert under eminent Canadian composer and conductor Malcolm Forsyth’s direction and given in his honour which featured his orchestral work Siyajabula! We rejoice!, written originally in celebration of the arrival of democracy in his homeland, South Africa.
